Assembly instructions

  1. Print the template.
  2. Cut out the strip along the outer edge.
  3. Fold the strip in half lengthwise, and glue together or tape along the long open edge.
  4. Crease every fold line in one direction, then flip the strip and crease each line in the opposite direction.
  5. Wrap the strip into a hexagon. Do this so that one face of your design is visible and correctly oriented.
  6. Glue or tape together the two faces with stars.

Flexing instructions

The standard move for a trihexaflexagon is the pinch flex. Each flex reveals a hidden third face.

  1. Hold the flexagon flat.
  2. Six edges meet at the center. You will pinch along three of these edges so that the triangles alternate up and down around the center (up–down–up–down–up–down).
  3. There are two ways to choose these three edges. One will work, and the other will not. Avoid pinching edges that have no separation.
  4. Pinch along the three chosen edges, bringing the two triangles on either side of each edge together so they touch back-to-back. The flexagon will lift into a three-pointed star shape.
  5. A small opening should appear in the center. Place your thumbs in the gap and gently pull it open, flattening the flexagon again.
  6. The hidden face will now be visible. If the center does not open, you chose the wrong set of edges to pinch. Try again using a neighboring set.
  7. Repeat the process to cycle through all three faces.
